Airport Tips & What to do in Case of a Mishap

The most popular method for long distance travel is flying, but it’s not a favored one. The hustle and bustle of an airport causes stress for a lot of people, especially if you’re not fully prepared. Luckily, we have some tips for making your time in the airport a much easier feat!

  1. Download the airline’s app to view flight status and check in early

If you book a flight with a major airline it’s almost a guarantee that they have an app for you to access every detail about your flight. You’ll be able to view your entire flight trip, view or change seating arrangements, and check in before you get to the airport. This not only gives you peace of mind, but it’s environmentally friendly and takes the work out of keeping track of your trip.

  1. Give yourself extra time at the airport

This may seem counterintuitive because you don’t want to spend all your time in the airport, but it is worth it. There is always the possibility for some issue to occur before getting to your gate and you don’t want anything standing in the way of you getting to your destination and ruining your trip.

  1. Know your airline’s baggage rules

This is a MUST if you are looking to save a significant amount of money on your trip. It’s a universal rule that bags must weigh no more than 50 lbs or 23 kg, however for international flights the allowance may increase to 70lbs or 32kg. Always be sure to check with your airline before you even start packing or be ready to pay hundreds of dollars on a single bag.

  1. Be smart about what you wear to the airport

Comfort over fashion is typical for anyone traveling on a plane, but sometimes how you dress can help you get through security or keep you there longer than you may want. Its most helpful to wear fewer layers if possible and make sure to wear shoes that are easy to remove.

  1. Know the security rules and allowances

Another factor in getting through security quickly is knowing what you can and can’t bring into the airport. While there are a lot of things to be careful of, the top two things to always make sure of is to keep liquids to 3oz sizes and in a sealed plastic bag, and never ever bring weapons of any kind (this includes pocket knives).

  1. Follow boarding procedures like your life depends on it

Once you are finally through the hard part of getting through the airport and are at your gate, a big tip is to follow the gate’s boarding procedures. This not only keeps the airport environment safe, it also helps the boarding process to run much more smoothly so you can get to your destination quicker.

  1. For international travel - getting through immigration and customs

If you are traveling outside of a country, you will have to go through customs of the new country you have entered. While it’s an added stress having to interact with strict border police, it is possible to get through with no problems. Just be calm and very direct with your answer should you have to answer any questions.
